As FC Barcelona prepares to sign Argentine maestro Leo Messi until 2018, the player has refused permission to the Catalan club to raise the hefty buy out clause tied to his contract. Barcelona want to protect the player from wealthy opportunists and although Messi doesn’t want to hear anything about changing clubs at the moment, you never know what the future may hold.

Speaking to The Daily Mail newspaper ahead of Brazil’s clash against England on Wednesday night at Wembley stadium, Ronaldinho said he regrets not having played more seasons with Lionel Messi. Ronaldinho said that Messi was a good friend and that even at a young age he could tell that he was going to be the best in the world.
Xavi Hernandez out for 15 days with torn hamstring

Barcelona playmaker Xavi Hernandez is set to be out for around 15 days with a torn hamstring picked up last night at Barca’s league clash with Valencia at La Mestalla stadium. The game was very intense and the midfielder had to be replaced by Thiago in the 90th minute. Xavi Hernandez now faces a race on his hands to be fit for Barcelona’s Champions League clash with AC Milan on February 20th.
Majestic Valdes saves Barca from red face at Mestalla

There could have been a few red faces last night at the Mestalla stadium if Victor Valdes hadn’t managed to keep a last ditch effort by the home-side out of the net. It was one of the best games of the season by far and Valencia managed to keep Barca at bay and even bring the game to the Catalans which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Barca receives the least amount of cards for fouls committed

Last Wednesday’s Copa del Rey semi final clash at the Santiago Bernabéu saw Real Madrid receive three yellow cards for a total of 19 fouls committed. On the other hand, Barcelona was shown the same amount of cards for just five fouls committed. Barcelona averages a card for every 6.15 fouls committed to Real Madrid’s 5.27. Espanyol is the worst with a card for every 3.86 fouls committed.
Real Madrid upset with Messi’s behaviour both on and off pitch

According to sources, Leo Messi went down to the Santiago Bernabéu car park after Wednesday’s match to find Alvaro Arbeloa who he insulted by calling a fool among other things. Messi then had to be guided away by a member of FC Barcelona to the waiting coach to take him and the rest of the squad back to Barcelona. La Sexta also reports that Messi even had words for Aitor Karanka, calling him “Mourinho’s puppet.”
