Leo Messi has refused to raise his buy out clause

In the negotiations for his new contract with Barcelona, Leo Messi has stated that he doesn’t want his release clause as a player to be any higher than it already is. FC Barcelona were ready to to go higher than the 250Million Euros it had agreed in the previous contract to shield the Argentine from any offers he might receive.

However, Leo Messi remained emphatic on this point and did not allow the club to raise the buy-out clause. At the moment, the Barca number 10 doesn’t want to hear about changing clubs, but you never know what the future may hold. And while 250Million Euros is an awful lot of money, these new multi-millionaires who are coming into the world of football might be tempted to pay it. The club, fully aware of the danger,  wanted to raise the clause to protect the player but Leo said no.

The final contract agreement between both parties was drawn up and closed a few days ago and although FC Barcelona officially announced that there was an agreement with the player until 2018, there are still a few things that remained to be tied up.

messi refuses to raise his release clause

The few outstanding things have nothing to do with Messi signing till 2018, as that is a done deal. There were some outstanding issues between the Barcelona Foundation and Messi’s own Foundation. Both Foundations have enjoyed a fine mutual relationship and all that remained was to define various economic and collaborative proposals that have already been ironed out and therefore will be signed tomorrow.

Messi’s sixth Barca renewal

With Messi signing tomorrow, it will be the sixth time Leo has put his signature on a contract with FC Barcelona. He first signed in 2005 when Txiki Begiristain had to go running off to Holland, where Leo was participating in The World Youth Trophy and was dazzling the entire planet with his skills. His signature was a must for Barca.

Thereafter, Messi’s extraordinary progression has meant that almost every year he has had to update his contract along with the player’s release clause.
