Barcelona FC News Friday updates

It’s been a fun packed week at the club and we start off with Barca president Sandro Rosell promising that there will be another signing before the end of August. Rosell made the comments at the 36th edition of the Barcelona World Peñas or supporters clubs which was held in Barcelona of all places!

Then we had the 47the edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy where Barca thrashed Santos by an amazing 8 goals to nothing. We expected a bit more from Santos who chose to lie down while the Catalan club walked all over them.

Then we had the episode of Fabregas. Apparently Barelona were annoyed at the player who somehow shied away from declaring his love publicly for the Catalan club. Martino, Zubizarreta and Bartomeu et al, all came out and said that the player wasn’t leaving, but the one who could finally put an end to the ‘Cesc Gate’ affair was the player himself. What was wrong with him?

As Barcelona has shown interest in David Luiz of Chelsea, the West london club with Mourinho at the helm, were not making it easy for the Catalans to sign him. Roman Abramovich wanted to ask around 46M euros for the player they paid 26.4M euros to Benfica for in 2011.

Barcelona then set off on a 10 hour flight to Bangkok for the start of their mini Asia tour. They started their training sessions at the Thai Army Sports Stadium, which is a multi-purpose stadium in the Din Daeng district of north Bangkok and the home of Army United F.C.

As it’s getting difficult for the club to sign a new central defender, we are now face with the possibility of Tata Martino having to wait for a fully fit Carles Puyol. With the end of August in sight and Chelsea playing hardball with Luiz, this might be the only option the new coach has left.

On Wednesday we saw more goals from Barca as they steamrollered Thailand in the first match of the Asia Tour. Goals came from Neymar, Messi Pedro and finally Alexis to seal Thailand’s fate with a 1-7 victory.

On Thursday, Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet had their 15 minutes of fame by stating that Barcelona made a £17.5M for Liverpool’s Daniel Agger. Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported that while Barcelona were speaking to David Luiz, another emissary from the club was setting the scenario in Anfield for talks with Daniel Agger.

Still on Thursday, Barcelona arrived in Kuala Lumpur, albeit 2 hours late. Fabregas took centre stage and declared his love for Barca at a press conference. He said “I have always felt loved here at Barca,” speaking about the rumours of his possible departure from the Catalan club.

Am I the only one who thought Fabregas’ public display of undying love for the club was a bit false? He pledged his love and future for the club without a smile on his face. He looked like he was forced into it if you ask me. What do you think about it? he faces another season fighting it out for a first team place with the likes of Iniesta and Xavi. Despite turning down an awesome offer from Manchester United, the player from Arenys de Mar, just up the road from Barcelona, refused to budge.

That’s the week’s Barcelona FC News in a few short paragraphs with just the news of Pedro along with Jordi Alba out of Saturday’s game, which is the last pre-season match before the start of the new season.
