Sandro Rosell promises one more signing before end of month

FC Barcelona president, Sandro Rosell, has announced that there will be one more player added to the squad before the end of the month, referring to the long awaited central defender, which was asked for by Barca’s coaches.

Rosell made the comments during the thirty-sixth edition of the Barcelona World Peñas (Barcelona World Supporters Clubs), which is being held at the Palau de Congresos in the Catalan capital of Barcelona.

The president alluded to the fact that it is not always easy to sign the players intended because some clubs have no wish to sell. Reading between the lines, we understand he was talking about the Thiago Silva saga. In the end, Paris Saint-Germain didn’t want to sell one of their prized assets and there was nothing that Barca could do. The whole affair ended in a very unsavoury way with the PSG owner threatening to execute Leo Messi’s buyout clause if the Catalans were successful in prising Silva away from the French outfit.

The latest negotiations undertaken by the club are now focusing fully on the following players: Chelsea’s David Luiz, and Daniel Agger from Liverpool.

During his opening speech, Rosell spoke of the “difficult” preseason that the team are going through following the resignation of Tito Vilanova. On the arrival of Gerard ‘Tata’ Martino, the Barca president admitted that the new coach fits the profile required from all angles.

Rosell also had time to praise the attitude of the team captains and thesquad who attended yesterday’s funeral of legendary ex Barca goalkeeper Antoni Ramallets, who died a few days ago aged 89.
