Iniesta, Messi and Ronaldo have been chosen as candidates for the UEFA best player of the year award with Xavi just missing the cut coming in at number 5 on the short list. The award will be announced in Monaco as part of the draw for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

French footballer Eric Abidal was in charge of getting the game under way against Paris Saint Germain in which Barca won on penalties after drawing 2-2. Abidal hopes to return to footballing duties by December if all goes to plan.
David Villa given the all clear but will not play yet
