Spanish Super Cup Preview

The two biggest names in Spanish football get to lock horns tonight at the Nou Camp for the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup. It’s the first “Clasico” of the current season and the fans are waiting with baited breath to see how their team performs.

Tonight may not be about who’s the best player in the world as Tito Vilanova meets Jose Mourinho for the first time. Mourinho will undoubtedly be trying to put to bed the “poke in the eye” incident where he ended up with three red cards.

Tonight’s game will be the 220th time these two great teams meet and Tito’s boys will be out to prove that they still have the edge when it comes to classy football. Real Madrid, the current league champions, will be out to prove that there’s more than one team in Spain and will be going after a win, no doubt.

Both teams will have a full squad of players to choose from and we can expect to see the best of the best out there as both outfits fight to get a foothold on the first title of the season. Other European countries like England play their equivalent cup which is the Charity Shield before the season starts but Spain, as we know, is different and prefers to play this particular just after the season gets underway.

Barcelona fans will nou doubt be itching to see latest signing Alex Song come off the bench and get some minutes. Real Madrid centre back Pepe will sit this leg out due to the vicious knock he took clashing with Iker Casillas in the draw against Valencia.

Kick off tonight is at 22:30 Spain time or GMT +1
