Argentine astro Leo Messi spoke out for the first time today about the knee injury he picked up last night against Benfica in the Champions League. He said that while he was on the stretcher he was thinking the worst. Fortunately for both Messi and his club the injury wasn’t as serious as expected and could play against Betis on Sunday.

After a goalless draw last night at the Nou Camp, Benfica go crashing out of the Champions League as Celtic won their match against Spartak by 2 goals to 1. It was a tough game and Tito fielded an experimental side to face the Lisbon team. Most of the regular 11 were rested and Messi had to be stretchered off for a knee injury although not serious.

There seems to be no stopping Leo Messi and tonight he will go out against Benfica knowing that he is one goal shy of the great Gerd Müller’s seemingly unbreakable feat of scoring 85 goals in a calendar year. If he manages to score two tonight, he will have beaten the record with almost a full month to spare.
Cesc Fabregás surpasses himself

Cesc Fabregás has surpassed himself and is now joint second top scorer with David Villa behind Messi. Fabregás has found his scoring boots again and has been an incredible influence on the rest of the team this season with more assists than anybody else. His confidence is high knowing that coach Vilanova can count on him in the starting eleven.

Barcelona FC defender Gerard Piqué has stated that his club’s mission is to win titles and not break records. Piqué believes that Barcelona has had an incredible start to the season but nothing has been decided yet as far as the league goes. He even warned that, although they are experiencing this euphoric moment, they have to be prepared for when they don’t win everything.
