Should Barca sign a new central defender?

Barcelona’s defense has been questionable this season and the question has arisen as to whether the Blaugranas should invest in another central defender. Barca has players that can fill in at the back but it’s not a long term solution for the club. With Carles Puyol not getting any younger, Barca may have to look at their options in order to provide stability at the back.

David Villa set to regain his first team place with La Roja

Barcelona’s in form David Villa looks set to regain his first team place in the Spain national side against Finland on Friday. Del Bosque will almost certainly count on Villa, who is Spain’s top goal scorer who hasn’t been a first team player for some 527 days after picking up his injury at the Club World Cup in December 2011.

Xavi Hernández to miss Finland game on Friday

Xavi Hernández will not be playing for La Roja on Friday 22nd March against Finland in the Spanish city of Gijón. Xavi was subjected to various medical tests and it has been decided to leave him out of the Finland game thinking ahead instead of the clash against France next week where he would be more useful. Xavi wasn’t on the pitch last weekend for the Rayo Vallecano clash where Barca won by 3 goals to 1.

David Beckham knocks Leo Messi off top earners list

David Beckham has knocked Lionel Messi off the top perch as highest paid footballer in the world. According to France Football magazine, Beckham earned a staggering 36 million euros last year which seals the top spot for the Englishman. However, only 9% of Beckham’s succulent income accounts for playing football. Becks’ unsurpassed longevity and being a brand name have helped him amass a fortune.

Messi and Villa take care of Rayo Vallecano

It may have been Jordi Roura’s last match at the helm of Barca but what a night it was! The connection between David Villa and Leo Messi was magical and both players ended up on the scoresheet. Between them, they took care of business and put wind in Barca’s sails once again with a fantastic display of football that ended up 3-1 to Barcelona.

Barca face Rayo Vallecano tonight at 21:00 and it looks like being number two coach Jordi Roura’s last game in charge. Roura expressed his joy at the imminent arrival of Tito Vilanova and also warned of the dangers that Barca could experience tonight against Rayo.

Jordi Alba warns of the offensive power of PSG

Barcelona have drawn French outfit Paris Sant Germain in the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League. Speaking at a press conference after the draw Jordi Alba warned of PSG’s attacking power up front and quality midfield stars. Real Madrid have drawn Turkish club Galatasaray and Malaga have been drawn against German club Borussia Dortmund.

Madrid prefer Barca now to a Champions League final showdown

Real Madrid prefers Barca now in a quarter final clash of Spanish giants to a showdown in a hypothetical final. The quarter final draw of the Champions League takes place tomorrow and the feeling at the merengue club is that they would like to face Barca now rather than later. Real Madrid have evolved this second half of the season and although they are confident, still have much respect for the Blaugranas.
