Luis Suárez netted two but Leo Messi failed to make it three by missing a penalty kick after Zabaleta brought him down. That gave City some breathing space for the return leg on 18th March.

It was a clear case of “much ado about nothing” last night at the Etihad as Barcelona steamrollered City by 2 goals to nil in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash. Goals came from Messi and Alves after the hosts had Martin Demichelis sent off for bringing down Messi early in the second half. More on this story
