The Cesc Fabregàs transfer saga is getting rather nasty just lately. The player has joined Chelsea and reports suggest that Mourinho phoned the midfielder to convince him and bury the hatchet. Cesc was convinced and has made the move to West London to join the Blues.
Last week we learned that Barça had a dig at Fabregàs stating that “despite glowing starts to each campaign, Cesc’s contributions to the cause gradually decreased as each season drew to a close.”
However, today has taken a new twist as we learn that Barcelona has refused to pay back Fabregàs the tidy sum of €5m euros. So why does the Catalan club owe Cesc this money?
It appears that Fabregas paid €5m himself toward the transfer to make it happen, so he could return to his boyhood club of Barcelona.
Cesc had an agreement that stated he would get the money back which he paid out of his own pocket if he was ever sold on. Sources suggest that Chelsea will pay €36m for the midfielder plus bonuses and that €3m of that will go to his former club Arsenal FC. Fabregas is owed the sum of €5m euros, but the Catalan giants refuse to cough up.
The Express says “And having already been forced to pay the Gunners £2.5m for the trophies Fabregas won during his spell back at the Nou Camp, they are now facing another bill.”
Spanish newspaper El Confidencial say the situation doesn’t look good and it is no way to treat a player who has played well for the club, regardless of what the fans perceive. If Barcelona don’t pay and the story is correct, Cesc Fabregàs now has the option of taking his boyhood club to court in order to get his money back.
