Barca beat Atletico Madrid last night without wanting to. After a goal by Radamel Falcao and a late goal by Alexis Sánchez, Atletico’s Gabi put the ball into the back of his own net past a bewildered Courtois to hand victory to Barca. FC Barcelona won the Spanish league last night after Real Madrid failed to beat Espanyol at Cornellà. The cat and mouse game was finally over and Barcelona can now enjoy the moment and celebrate their 22nd La Liga title. Athletic Bilbao were up for the challenge and got on the scoreboard before Barcelona on Saturday at the Cathedral in Bilbao. The game ended up in a 2-2 draw which means that Barcelona have to put their La Liga celebrations on ice for another week courtesy of Ander Herrera who scored in the dying seconds of the game. It was left up to Barca’s youth academy boys to fire the Catalans to a 3 nil win over Zaragoza yesterday. Goals came from Thiago Alcántara and Christian Tello, who snatched a brace with a great performance to match. It may have been Jordi Roura’s last match at the helm of Barca but what a night it was! The connection between David Villa and Leo Messi was magical and both players ended up on the scoresheet. Between them, they took care of business and put wind in Barca’s sails once again with a fantastic display of football that ended up 3-1 to Barcelona.
The big question on everyone’s lips at the moment is when does Real Madrid’s luck finally run out. The whites were lucky against Barcelona last Saturday in the clasico and even luckier on Tuesday night against Manchester United in the Champions League after the tide turned from being outplayed by the red devils and a goal down, to Nani’s sending off and winning the tie 1-2.
Barcelona’s central defender Gerard Piqué is so confident in his team at the moment that he reckons they can win all 3 trophies this year. Piqué thinks that Barca is capable of walking off and closing the season with La Copa del Rey, La Liga and the Champions League. Piqué is in good form at the moment and says that morale is high in the dressing room.
