Barcelona striker Leo Messi provides injury update

Messi injury

Martin Demichelis goes in hard on Lionel Messi

After Barcelona keeper Claudio Bravo telling us that Leo will be fit to play at the weekend, the Argentine has come out and provided his own updates on his foot injury.

Messi hurt his foot in the clash against Manchester City and is a cause for concern amongst the club’s medical staff. Although Bravo and pique feel that Messi will be available for the Celta Vigo clash, the doctors are concerned about the possible long term effects of playing with such an injury.

But we all know Messi and the Argentine will want to play at all costs. He hates being subbed and is not the type of player to sit it out even if he thinks there’s a slim chance of playing. However, this could be detrimental to the player and that’s why the medics are concerned about any long term damage being done if he trots out at the Balaidos stadium at the weekend.

Before today’s training session, Leo Messi provided an update on his condition via his official Facebook page:

Back in Barcelona. The Tour in US was sweet and sour for me. We got 2 wins with a great job from everyone, but I couldn’t play because of my swollen foot. It still hurts a bit, but I hope to recover soon so I can help the National team and FC Barcelona.

To put this in perspective: Messi is not really needed in this game against Celta Vigo which Barcelona should win comfortably so should he risk making the injury worse just because he’s Messi and wants to play? In our opinion it is pure folly to play a star like Messi when he’s not needed and could worsen his condition. The club needs to tell him straight that he needs to sit this one out.
