Barca star Xavi has signed for Qatari club Al Arabi, claims Petrescu

With Cesc moving to London club Chelsea, news that Barça legend Xavi Hernández has joined Qatari club Al Arabi means that two of the club’s finest are out of the doors of the Nou Camp within a week.

Al Arabi coach Dan Petrescu claims that the Barcelona midfield general has agreed a pre-contract with the Qatari outfit.Xavi still has two years left on his current deal at the Nou Camp but things are beginning to look uncertain for him under the new tenure of Luis Enrique.

Petrescu made his comments live on Romanian channel Digisports, hours after a reported meeting took place between the player’s agent and club president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

This looks like being a big money move for Xavi to end his career and will follow in the footsteps of Spain teammate Raúl who left German club Schalke 04 to finish his playing days in Al Sadd.

Al Arabi coach Dan Petrescu said: “Xavi has signed a pre-contract with Al Arabi. It is likely that he has offers from other clubs too.

“I told Xavi that if he is prepared to run and give everything for the team, he should come here.

“We are in direct contact with the player. He is currently in Brazil focusing on his job with the national team.

“I talked to him on the phone and I appreciate that he’s an extraordinary man. If Xavi comes here, we’ll be able to attract bigger names but I’m not prepared to disclose these names now.

“Naturally I would like to bring Xavi to our team. Al Arabi can give him €8million (Dh39.8m) per year.”

One can understand why Xavi would move on now. He’s been at the club since he was a lad and has just seen two of his long standing friends move on. Carles Puyol, who has hung up his boots to take on an administrative role at the club and Victor Valdés, who has left on a free transfer.

About Aaron

My name's Aaron and I'm a great Barça fan. I like to tell it like it is and if there is something I don't like about the club or something that needs addressing, you'll know!
