18 year old Luke Shaw
According to Spanish sports newspaper AS, the Red Devils have made a surprising enquiry about Barcelona’s Jordi Alba. One of the highest priorities for new manager Louis van Gaal is to get a top class left back. The transfer market is expected to be set alight this summer even though most of the players are on World cup duty.
Manchester United have their eye on 18 year old superstar Luke Shaw from Southampton and although shaw expressed a desire to leave for United for a reported £27m deal, negotiations for the young player are creeping along slowly. This may be due to the fact that Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino has left to join Tottenham and the club will not let any of their stars go until a new manager is appointed. Shaw is targeted by United, Rickie Lambert has already been sold to Liverpool while Adam Lallana is the subject of multiple bids from Brendan Rogers’ outfit.
Jordi alba on the other hand, is thought to be seen as an ideal option in case their main target Shaw doesn’t come, and a tentative approach has been made to the Catalan giants to see if an agreement could be reached.
Man United are fully aware that convincing Jordi Alba to make the switch to Old Trafford may be a difficult one, but they are hopeful given that Barcelona are set to offload a lot of their squad including Cesc Fabregàs in the hope of turning around a difficult season under Gerardo Martino.
Alba has had a few good seasons at Barcelona but his role under new boss Luis Enrique is still not clear.
