Has Fabregàs’ agent made a deal with Chelsea?

Could Fabregàs end up at The Bridge?

I was reading some of the Spanish press yesterday, particularly Mundo Deportivo (I’m fluent in Spanish btw) and was intrigued by the fact that Fabregàs could return to the Premier League but not to Arsenal or Manchester United as everyone had thought at first.

MD point out that Fabregàs’ agent Darren Dein has been really busy and has spoken with all the top clubs that may be interested in the playmaker from Catalonia. MD said that Liverpool was also in the fray but now they seem to think that Mourinho’s Chelsea has made a deal with Dein and the player.

Whatever the case there are a few things that would keep Fabregàs in London rather than move up north with his family and join Manchester United or Liverpool.London is where he made his mark with Arsenal and it’s where his children have been brought up so it seems right to entertain the Chelsea theory in my opinion.

Also, Graham Hunter, a Spanish sports journalist has similar views. When Hunter was asked where Fabregas would end up this summer, his reply was emphatic:

“Chelsea,” he said.

The journalist feels a price between Barça and Chelsea has already been agreed, but is concerned that Fabregàs may struggle to work under the guidance of ex Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho.

“Barcelona are off the record confirming that there’s an agreement on price with Chelsea. I have to admit I do not know what Fabregas would think of working for Jose Mourinho.

“There were times when Mourinho was with [Real] Madrid that Fabregas was – although articulate – very critical of Mourinho’s behaviour. That can change, huge wages can make you work for different people.”

Although the Blues are favourites for the Barça midfielder’s signature, Hunter reckons that Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich could mount a late challenge for Cesc if they can sell Bastian Schweinsteiger.

“The reason Barcelona want to sell Fabregas is they want to spend €60m on buying Koke out of his clause at Atletico Madrid,” Hunter continued.

“But Pep Guardiola does want to move Schweinsteiger on. He feels Bastian doesn’t move the ball quickly enough for the brand of football he’s trying to implicate [at Bayern].

“If Schweinsteiger gets sold then maybe there will be a bid for Fabregas but if you ask me where he will end up, I think he will end up at Chelsea.”

If Fabregàs ends up at Chelsea, then it will be to replace club legend Frankie Lampard, who is allowed to leave the club on a free transfer this summer. Fabregàs would be the perfect replacement for Lampard in my opinion. The only reason Fabregàs won’t be ending up wearing a blue strip is his enmity with Mourinho. It appears that there is no love lost between the pair and many people feel that Cesc won’t end up at Stamford Bridge because of that.
