Madrid show Pep who’s boss and Barcelona ban overturned

real madrid vs bayern munich

Real Madrid showed ex Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola that they meant business last night in the Santiago Bernabéu by beating Bundesliga winners and current Champions League favourites by a goal to nil.

It was an intense match at the Bernabéu and before the match Pep wanted to play down the fact that he’d never been beaten there against Real Madrid, alluding that “he did it with another club (Barça)”.

Bayern were all over the Madrid team as was expected but it was Karim Benzema who got the vital goal just after 19 minutes of play. From then on Real had two more “bread and butter” chances to seal the deal even more but failed shots from Ronaldo and Di María went wide of the mark.

Bayern had much of the play as was expected and now find themselves on the ropes as a solitary goal at the Allianz Arena in Munich would be enough to cancel the Germans plans to be in Lisbon for the final.

The great Franz Beckenbauer had more strong words for Pep Guardiola and said that Bayern were lucky not to get beaten by more goals. He said that “monopolising the possession of the ball means nothing if the other team are the ones creating the chances.”

On another note, FIFA have overturned the ban imposed on the Catalan giants which ruled them out of any transfer deals for 2 windows. This is good news for Barcelona as they would like to offload players this summer and bring in fresh faces. This is exactly the kind of news United and Arsenal want to hear also as Fabregàs and Pedro could be moving on to pastures green now that the Blaugrana club are able to transfer new players.
