Real Madrid drop 3 points in race for La Liga crown

Real Madrid dropped 3 valuable points in the race for the Spanish League title and gifted both Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona some valuable points. Real Madrid now go third in the race, 3 points behind Atlético Madrid and 2 points behind the Catalan giants.

It appears that last Sunday’s Clásico defeat hurt the “merengue” morale and they have now been handed their 4th league defeat thanks to a brace of goals by Sevilla’s Bacca.

Ronaldo netted first for Real Madrid but his strike was canceled out by a goal from Carlos Bacca. Ronaldo scored from a free kick that glanced off Carlos Bacca to wrong foot the keeper and spin into the net. It was inevitable that Real would score and the “whites” looked like taking this game as they were firing shot after shot at the Sevilla goal. Bacca made up for his faux pas by finding the net just four minutes later.

With the teams locked at 1-1, Real Madrid’s hope of salvaging a win seriously dwindled with Sevilla keeper Beto playing out of his boots for the Andalusian side.

Real knew that something had to be done as Atlético were beating Granada and FC Barcelona were winning against Celta. Ancelotti’s men knew that another goal would keep their title dream alive until disaster struck in the 72nd minute.

Croatian playmaker Ivan Rakitic, who played an exceptional game last night, fed Carlos Bacca with the finest of touches who beat Diego López for the second time on the evening for his 19th goal of the season for Sevilla.

That was it, in the space of a week, Real Madrid go from top of the league to third in one fell swoop. On the other hand, Barcelona seem to be firing on all cylinders as Neymar made good against Luis Enrique’s Celta Vigo.
