The Catalan giants have confirmed that defender Jordi Alba pulled a hamstring in their win over Manchester City at the Etihad stadium last night.
Jordi Alba looks likely to miss Saturday’s La Liga clash with Real Sociedad in Anoeta following Barcelona’s convincing 2-0 win over Man City at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.
It is the second time this season that the 24 year-old defender has suffered a muscle strain. Alba was out of action for over two months with a thigh problem before the mid-season break.
The Catalan club confirmed the news of Alba’s latest injury on their official website, with a statement that read: “After arriving at the Ciudad Deportiva, tests have confirmed that the player Jordi Alba has pulled a hamstring in his right leg. His recovery will decide his availability for the next game, which will be on Saturday in Anoeta against Real Sociedad (8.00PM CET).”
With this win at the Etihad, this puts them in the driving seat to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League ahead of the second leg to be played at the Camp Nou in Barcelona next month. Barcelona have never failed to win a Champions League match after going 2 nil up.
The Barça squad of 23 arrived back in Barcelona today at around Midday, following their win on Tuesday at Manchester City (0-2), in the first leg of their last 16 clash of the UEFA Champions League.
