Xavi Hernandez – target for MLS team New York City

The team, purchased by Manchester City and the NY Yankees has already started with their sports project, which will invest an amount said to be around 300 million euros that will make it the team with the highest budget in the league.

There have been several names that have been speculated to form part of the squad for the new team in New York, and Xavi Hernandez is on that list. As noted by ‘The Daily Telegraph’, Manchester City are in charge of preparing the team and have their sights set on the Barca captain to set out the team’s footballing philosophy, just like Manchester City, who are organized to play good football on the pitch.

Former executives speak on behalf of Xavi
The main supporters of Xavi are former Barça men, Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain. Both have already talked to the future coach of the franchise, Jason Kreis , explaining that players should adapt to Xavi’s style of football, who should be the brains of the outfit and the one who controls the game.

“We have a philosophy that we want to play, that we like and the people like, and after that, we sign the coach,” Begiristain said. “After that, he is free.”

Soriano said: “These are broad concepts, but very strong. We would never choose a manager, whether it is Manuel Pellegrini in Manchester or Jason here, that would not believe in those pillars. On those pillars, he can build whatever he wants.”

Reyna and Kreis already working on the squad
Claudio Reyna, former Man City player and current sporting director, has confirmed that he and the future coach are starting to put together a squad with names of future targets. “We will work aggressively and actively, with an offensive philosophy, so that the players we bring in will have certain characteristics.

Ex Barça star Thierry Henry also wants to convince Xavi
Another former Barcelona star who wants the Catalan by his side is former teammate Thierry Henry. Although it would still be the city of New York, the Frenchman would like to convince Xavi on a move to the New York Red Bulls for which Rafael Marquez has already played and where Henry himself is the current captain and team leader.

About Aaron

My name's Aaron and I'm a great Barça fan. I like to tell it like it is and if there is something I don't like about the club or something that needs addressing, you'll know!
