Pedro and Alexis shoot down Celta but leave Martino thinking

Pedro and Alexis

Pedro and Alexis are on fire

As Barcelona continues in their advance to securing another League title, there is a sporting battle going on within its ranks in the shape of Pedro and Alexis Sánchez. The player from Tenerife left his mark on 2013 by netting a fantastic hat-trick and now the Chilean has followed in his footsteps by kicking off 2014 by snatching a treble against Elche.

The two players put on a fantastic show yesterday and steered their club to a comfortable 4-0 win over Elche. Alexis played extremely well and his contribution to the game was outstanding. He constantly found space to run in behind the opposition and caused all sorts of problems. This is Alexis’ first treble since moving to Barca.

Pedro was just as effective as his teammate as he opened up the scoring and set up one of the Chilean’s goals. Pedro’s fine first time pass to Fabregas led to the move that ended in a penalty for the Catalans.

With superb play like this from these two, Martino now finds himself in a quandary. The coach will have his big artillery ready for the game with Messi and Neymar up front, leaving just one place for either Alexis or Pedro. With both players in such fine form, Martino will have a difficult decision ahead of that game for sure.

Gerard Martino will have to pick one of the two in-form players for the big match and not make the same mistake against Real Madrid, when he picked neither. He brought out Fabregas as a false striker and moved Leo Messi to the wing. This time though, it looks like the Argentine coach will have to bite the bullet and field either Alexis or Pedro.
