Oliver Kahn, former Bayern and Germany goalkeeper says that Barcelona’s dominance in Europe has finished and that Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich is favourite to win the next Champions League. “I believe that Barça’s best days are now over, a German side should no longer fear any team in Europe,” said Oliver Kahn in ‘TV Movie’ magazine.
Despite the changes and style Bayern Munich’s coach Pep Guardiola has implemented, Kahn feels sure that the team is on course to retain the Champions League title even though the players are not fully adapted to the new manager’s style just yet. “I think that the team has many intelligent players and can meet the challenge,” said Kahn.
“Bayern’s continued success will always require change and new ideas,” added the ex international.
Kahn also believes that rival Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund, last season’s finalist beaten by Bayern, is in with a good shout and says that they have “a very strong squad”.
Oliver Kahn made a total of 429 appearances for Bayern Munich and 86 for the German national side and cemented himself firmly as one of the best goalkeepers of his generation. In 1999 when Bayern lost their Champions League bid to Manchester United, the International Federation of Football History and Statistics named Oliver Kahn World Goalkeeper of the Year.
