German stopper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, who Barca has their eye on for a possible replacement for Victor Valdes, has put the brakes on the contract renewal proposal that his current club Borussia Moenchengladbach has made him.
The young German international’s contract expires in 2015, which does not seem to bother Ter Stegen too much and who said in Germany’s Kicker magazine that he is in no hurry to accept the proposal that his club has made him.
In addition, the 21 year old, who was named best goalkeeper in the Bundesliga in 2012, wants to play in European competitions next season, so if his team does not qualify for the Europa League at least, his possible arrival on the Catalan’s doorstep could be even closer.
Back in January we learned that Victor Valdes was calling time on his reign at Barca. It was when the agents of goalkeeper Victor Valdes told the Catalan club at a meeting that the keeper will not renew his contract with FC Barcelona that expires on June 30th 2014.
Valdes said earlier in the same month that he would not rule out a change of scenery and would like to try “other cultures and other football” in the final stretch of his football career. There were a few doubts about whether Valdes would still be here in the summer but the player will see out his contract.
It will be difficult to replace the keeper as Valdes is one of the best stoppers in the game. Barca will need a keeper that is able to play with his feet to be able to fit into their style of play and Ter Stegen seems to check all the right boxes at the moment otherwise the Catalan club would not have entertained the idea of the 21 year old.
