Stoke City sign Barca’s Marc Muniesa

As strange as this may seem, Premier League team Stoke City have signed Barcelona star Marc Muniesa on a free transfer. We don’t know if Muniesa likes it “rough” but choosing Stoke has come as a bit of a surprise to most fans especially as Stoke City are one of the “hardest” sides in the Premiership.

Marc Muniesa was part of the Spanish under-21 side that beat Italy in the final which saw Thiago Alcantara get a hat trick. Stoke’s manager Mark Hughes spent time at Barcelona in the 1986/87 season and to get the young youth team starlett would be a real coup for the manager.

The signing comes as a possible change of direction for the renowned “hard side” of the Premier League and Hughes can take all the credit.21-year-old Marc Muniesa can also operate on the left side of defence, as well as centrally and the the player is said to be delighted with his change of scenery.

Speaking to the Stoke City website, Marc Muniesa had this to say about his move:

“It wasn’t a big decision for me to make. I came to England yesterday to meet the people at the club and look around the training ground, which is very impressive.”

“My season only finished a fortnight ago when the European Championships ended, but I can’t wait to get started for Stoke. I would start tomorrow if the club asked me to.”

Stoke fans will be praying that Marc Muniesa’s debut isn’t like the nightmare debut he had for Barca as a 17 year old where he got sent off against Osasuna! Watch the video below.
