Barca ready to pounce if Rooney comes on market?

There was a rumour a few months back that Wayne Rooney may join Barcelona and it looks like the rumour has resurfaced again.

According to UK newspaper The Sun, Barcelona are ready to pounce should the board at Manchester United agree with his decision to leave the club. should Rooney come on the market, Barca would then have to fight off stiff opposition from other big clubs like Chelsea and eternal rivals Real Madrid.

The 27 year old striker is set for crunch talks with new boss David Moyes this week. The player did tell Alex Ferguson he wanted out but the ex Manchester United boss was having none of it, insisting he wasn’t for sale. FC Barcelona are now monitoring the situation according to top Barca sources and are ready to make an offer should he become available.

According to the British newspaper, a Barca insider said: “Rooney is precisely the type of attacker that would fit perfectly into the system.
“Defence starts from the front at Barca and Rooney works harder than anyone.
“His first touch, movement, control and vision are phenomenal and if he comes on the market then the club are certain to try to sign him.”

It appears that 27 year old Rooney is seen as the ideal replacement for David Villa who looks set to join Tottenham this summer after lots of interest from North London rivals Arsenal FC cooled down.

Do we think that Rooney could end up at Barca? He certainly has the talent but if Barca wanted the 30M Euro rated striker to replace David Villa and then rotate him, then it wouldn’t be a wise move for Wayne Rooney. He’s 27 now and still has some good years in him. In fact, he may have his best few years ahead of him and being in one of the worlds top clubs would bring out his talent even more.

The big question on everyone’s lips is this: would there be space for Rooney at Barca with Messi and Neymar at the front?
