Could Barca land Chelsea misfit Fernando Torres?

According to British newspaper The Sun, FC Barcelona could make a £17million bid for Chelsea misfit Fernando Torres.

La Liga winners are preparing to table a £17million bid for the striker which is a staggering £33million less than what Chelsea paid for the player just over 2 years ago. Jose Mourinho, aka “Special One Mk2”, now wants to sit down with Torres to discuss his options before letting the club’s highest paid player out of the door.

Torres knows that Chelsea are chasing after Serie A’s Napoli hotshot Edinson Cavani, thought to be worth around £54Million and therefore knows that his Blues’ days are numbered.

Fernando Torres still has three years left on his contract worth a succulent £9Million a year and it’s now in the Blues’ corner as to how much of a hit they are willing to take on the striker who has blown hot and cold since he came from Liverpool.

Torres is currently in Brazil with the the World Cup winners and not due back in West London for another month. The 29 year-old has just finished his best season so far with the Blues scoring 22 goals – only 8 of which have been in the Premier League.

David Villa, who is set to leave the Camp Nou this summer, would be replaced by Torres according to the British newspaper. The Catalan giants are in the process of rebuilding their team and have signed Brazilian wonder kid, Neymar.

They also have their eye on another Brazilian in the shape of Chelsea’s David Luiz for £35M and hope that the addition of Torres as a backup striker will help get his career back on track after a nightmare period at Chelsea where he became the Premier League’s British record transfer fee when he signed from Liverpool. Fernando Torres currently earns a whopping £175,000-a-week and Barca are prepared to match that, surprisingly.

We will have to wait to see if any of this becomes solid as it’s all speculation at the moment but a move back to Spain for Torres would help the player get his career back on track, we think.
