Barcelona wanted to sign Rafael Varane

A program on Catalan TV station TV surprised everyone today on its edition of Esport Club by announcing that Catalan giants FC Barcelona inquired about Real Madrid’s central defender Rafael Varane.

According to information, Barcelona would have paid the buyout clause of the player but it turns out that it was the young French player himself who was opposed to a change of scenery.

The Catalan TV channel explained on their program the response of the player and an explanation of his refusal to talk to Barcelona over any possible move away from the Santiago Bernabéu. He said that Real Madrid has put a lot of faith in him and now he wants to pay back the club’s confidence shown to him.

The 20 year old Frenchman from Lille, France stunned the world in March when he took out one of the world’s best players, Leo Messi, in the clasico. Rafael Varane did an impeccable job in shutting down the Argentine and caught the eye of more than a few talent scouts at that match.

Varane is a tall defender who is comfortable as both a central defender and defensive midfielder. We are sure that his height, talent and speed caught the eye of the Barca coaches who were more than willing to pay the player’s buyout clause.

Rafael Varane would have been a great addition to the Barca squad and is just the type of key player Vilanova needs to enthuse life into his back four.
