Barca back in form against Real Betis

David Villa in action against Betis

Barca can be La Liga champions on Wednesday after a great comeback against Real Betis last night at the Camp Nou. For that to happen, Real Madrid must not win against Málaga.

It doesn’t really matter anyway as it’s just a matter of time before Barca are crowned La Liga champions after losing the title last year to Real Madrid.

Barca put in a worthy performance with some lovely football and neat touches, especially by Andres Iniesta, whose cheeky back heel pass just outside the box left the Betis defenders for dead so Alexis could cross the ball for Messi.

Betis started off strong and their first goal came from a Pinto error when he kicked the ball to a Betis player on the halfway line who headed upfield for Pabón to rifle past the Barca keeper on 2 minutes.

Alexis then levelled on 8 minutes only for Rubén Pérez to make it 1-2 with an absolute scorcher just before half time. The Betis number 8 gave Pinto no chance as the ball rocketed in his top right hand corner.

There was no doubt about it – Betis was bring the game to Barca and the Catalans were very wary.

After the break Barca began to find themselves although Betis was still keen to get on the scoreboard. David Villa then made it 2 apiece for Barca. The Betis defenders failed to pick up Villa who was lurking at the far post to nod in from a cross from Dani Alves just outside the box to the keeper’s left.

Villa needed the goal just as Alexis had needed his. It was level scores now and Tito brought on Messi for David Villa.

Messi wasted no time and made the score 3-2 to the Catalans in the 59th minute. Messi literally came on and scored! The goal was beautiful, too. Barca was awarded a free-kick just outside the box and Leo Messi cleverly bent the ball into the top left hand corner of the Betis goal to put Barca back in front.

Messi’s goal scoring wasn’t over and in the 70th minute Barca showed their skill. Some clever play from Iniesta who back-heeled the ball to Alexis who squared the ball for Messi to tap in was vintage Barca and just what the fans wanted to see.

That was it from the Camp Nou. Betis had worked hard but in the end they were no match for Barca.
