Barca chasing Mats Hummels according to Sport Bild

A few days ago it was reported that Barca had begun the final arrangements to decide which defense system Barca will employ next summer and according to various sources doing the rounds in Germany, Mats Hummels could be the one.

24 year-old Mats Hummels who is under contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2017, was on the list of possible signings last season and is on Barca’s “hit list” for several seasons – his versatility (he can play at both sides in the back four and as a defensive midfielder), solvency (he holds a first team place and in the German national side), a regular finisher, good skills and good ability to run with the ball.

The German sports weekly newspaper ‘Sport Bild‘ not only says that Barca has plans to launch a bid for Hummels, who is now injured with an ankle problem and whose market value is about 25 million Euros, but even announces that Raul Sanllehí, football director of FC Barcelona, would be the one responsible for conducting the negotiations for the Catalan club.

Sport Bild added that Dortmund has no intention of getting rid of their number 15 who is a key player in Jürgen Klopp’s set up, but adds that the player could have a “buy out clause” in his contract of around 37 million euros and that it would be activated if Borussia were to receive a firm offer before 1^st April.

Mats Hummels’ father and representative deny any contact with Barca

Mats Hummels, who is represented by his father Hermann, has always denied the existence of such a clause.

And Hermann Hummels said on Wednesday in the newspaper Die Welt that “I have not had any contact with Barcelona, although I’ve heard the rumours.

Every ambitious player’s goal is to one day play for Barcelona, Real Madrid or Manchester United but this does not mean that his departure is imminent. ”

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Barca plans to sign a forward, a central player and a keeper. The Catalan club has confirmed to Mundo Deportivo that Mats Hummels is among the top candidates for the central position but had no plans to initiate any negotiations until the return of Tito Vilanova to Barcelona.
