Barca president confident Vilanova will change keeper Valdes’ mind

Barca president Sandro Rosell still thinks that Victor Valdes, who still has one year left on his contract, will go back on his decision to leave the club in the summer and stay in Barcelona. His argument is that Tito Vilanova will make him change his mind.

Sandro Rosell expressed his views yesterday in an interview with El Mundo Deportivo: “I hope so (that Valdés renews his contract). We said at the time, that it was better to wait until the summer comes, that the club has won everything in its power to win and that Tito is fit and well.”

“When Tito’s been able to talk to Victor Valdes and that Barca shows him that they want him, I think he will reconsider his decision. ”

Rosell also acknowledged that he still doesn’t know the reasons why the Barcelona keeper does not want to renew, but hopes to talk to him.

Victor Valdes’ contract with FC Barcelona expires on June 30th 2014 and his agents EFE said that the keeper wouldn’t renew stating that Valdes’ wanted to experience new cultures and other styles of play. Whether the Barca president gets the stopper to change his mind is another matter. The keeper will be 32 years of age when his contract expires and and has won numerous trophies with the Catalan club along with 5 Ricardo Zamora trophies that was established by Spanish sports paper Marca in 1958.

Victor Valdés has always lived in Iker Casillas’ shadow regarding his international career with La Roja and as long as Casillas was fit, Valdés would never get a look in. It’s a shame as Valdes has never got the full international recognition he so deserves.

Whatever Victor decides, it will certainly be the best for the player and his family despite the intentions of both Rosell and Vilanova to reverse the keeper’s decision.
