Last chance for Alexis Sánchez at Barcelona

Alexis Sanchez, the ‘Boy Wonder’, the best player in the Italian Serie A with Udinese in 2010 is facing his last chance on the Barca stage. Whether Alexis Sánchez makes the first team, a substitute or even sitting in the stands against A.C Milan in the second leg crunch of their Champions League tie will most certainly dictate if the player is to continue with Barcelona or not.

Alexis Sánchez

And it’s not because the Barcelona boardroom, the coaches or the dressing room are hesitant. To the contrary, Tito reviewed all his games before giving the nod of agreement to sign him under Pep Guardiola’s reign. Andoni Zubizarreta blesses his contribution beyond the goals saying that Alexis gives a lot to the team and his teammates value his commitment to the club stating that he’s young, brave and intense when putting on the pressure.

It is not a problem of adaptation. Alexis lives gripped by a blockage of self confidence that he cannot seem to break free of coupled with some poor statistics – just four goals this season and a long way off the 15 netted last year. The fans are beginning to question his place at the Catalan club and only a brilliant performance when it is most needed and when everything is at stake could redeem the Chilean before a Barca crowd that are surprised by his apparent difficulty to control the ball and find the back of the net.

Alexis Sánchez, who cost 26Million euros plus 11.5Million in variables, is not having an easy time in this difficult period in his career. In La Copa del Rey against Real Madrid, he was left to sit in the stands by the Barca coaching staff.

In league with very little playing time on the pitch, Sánchez gave off signals that he was getting back to his former self. Striker David Villa has gained much ground in his particular duel with him although the Chilean is in better shape physically. Alexis needs goals but he also needs the applause of the fans.

Naples are pondering a loan deal

And while in Spain the Chilean is going through a bad patch, the Serie A clubs still have faith in him. Naples is thinking of Alexis as a possible replacement for Cavani, who looks set to leave. ‘Tuttosport‘ revealed yesterday that Naples president De Laurentis, could be on the verge of asking Barcelona for a loan deal.

Il Corriere dello Sport‘ also published the interest in the player yesterday and recalled the efforts and negotiations of the past two seasons. Italian giants Juventus and Liverpool could also be possible destinations.
