As every Barca fan now knows, goalkeeper Victor Valdes has decided to leave this the Catalan club this coming summer without waiting for his contract, which ends in June 2014, to expire.
After learning the news about Valdes, there are many clubs who have started to show an interest for the Barca keeper. Up till now, Arsenal has been the only club to express an open interest for the Barca goalkeeper and looks like it’s in a good position to acquire the Catalan’s services.
The London club has been tracking the market since last season and tried unsuccessfully to snatch Pepe Reina from Liverpool. Now, with the resignation of Valdés and his desire for leaving the Nou Camp, the heavens have been opened up for Arsenal and Arsene Wenger, as it were.
Polish goalkeepers Szczesny and Fabianski have just not convinced Arsène Wegner. With world-class players in each position in his squad, the Frenchman wants to get the team’s goalkeeping sorted out once and for all. He knows that by doing this, he has a chance of making Arsenal a championship winning team once more.
In recent years, and despite the good football that has been deployed at Arsenal, the team has always come second best to teams like Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea and it’s this fact which has led to the exodus of some of their finest players: Cesc, Nasri and Van Persie among others.
The Gunners’ attraction for Victor Valdés
In the famous press conference in which Valdes spoke of experiencing “new cultures”, England could well fit into the plans of the Barca stopper.
With Manchester City counting on England’s keeper Joe Hart, Petr Cech at Chelsea with the possibility of recovering Belgian star Thibaut Courtois from Atletico Madrid and Manchester United with one eye on Stoke City goalkeeper Begovic, Valdés’ possibilities in the Premier League are reduced to North London club Arsenal. Therefore, the Gunners have decided to hedge their bets on Valdés as with David Villa, their other great aspiration for this summer’s transfer window.
God I hope not! I think Szczesny is our present and future, Valdez could quite honestly piss off to some other club
Szczesny better than Valdes? What planet are you living on mate?
You can keep Valdes and Villa, we’re looking for players with Arsenal DNA…like that Fabregas chap.
