Guardiola snubbed Chelsea because of trust says Michael Ballack

With the world waiting with bated breath as to what Pep Guardiola has in store for Bayern Munich after the summer and a lot of fans disillusioned as to why the Catalan coach didn’t end up in the Premier League next year, there is one German who thinks he knows for sure why Guardiola didn’t sign for West London club Chelsea.

Ex Bayern Munich and Chelsea star Michael Ballack believes that Guardiola never got to sign a deal with Chelsea because of trust issues.

36 year old Ballack who spent the last 2 years at Bayer Leverkusen (2010-2012 seasons) before retiring from football is among the top goal scorers in the history of his international team and won the German Footballer of the Year award three times – in 2002, 2003 and 2005.

Michael Ballack announced his decision via a news statement from his lawyer, in which he thanked everyone who supported him during his time as footballer.

‘At 36 years old I can look back on a long and wonderful time in professional football, which I could never have dreamed of as a child,’ he said.
‘It was a privilege to work with world-class coaches and fantastic players. Now I am looking forward to a new chapter in my life.’

Michael Ballack had this to say about Pep Guardiola’s decision to coach a German club.

If you want to work as a coach for longer term you need consistency, trust in the club and also the environment around the club.
“Maybe that is a point why he didn’t sign it. But it is also a big challenge as a coach. It’s a fantastic signing for Bayern and for Pep Guardiola as well.

“Nobody in Germany expected him to sign. It shows the Bundesliga has grown a lot in the last few years and his decision looks like it’s not all about money, he is a coach with a philosophy.

“He needs a good environment and will find this in Munich. There is a good atmosphere, that was a big reason to sign.”
