David Villa’s future at Barca looks bleaker than ever

david villa might be moving

The future of David Villa is looking more and more distant from the Nou Camp. The player does not want to stay at Barcelona under these circumstances and it is becoming increasingly clear that his future does not belong at Barca.

Tito is not counting on the Spaniard, at least not as much as Villa would like. And we have seen the proof these last few weeks.

The coach has called on David Villa for the “lesser important games” where there has not been too much at stake. For the games that have mattered, Tito has kept Villa on the bench. And this is nothing new because it has been this way since the start of the season.

Villa needed some time to get over a serious injury and time to get back into the team. But six months down the line, the situation has not changed for the player.

If an opportunity comes up in the winter transfer window, Villa would probably accept it. But it won’t be easy for Villa to leave, as the club will not want to gift the player to just any team that shows an interest.

Villa signed for four seasons in 2009. FC Barcelona paid 40 million for his transfer from Valencia, which means that there is still a large part of his contract left to pay for. If Villa were to leave in the winter transfer market, the club that buys him would have to pay at least 15 million euros, which is the amount that remains outstanding.

If the transfer took place next summer, that figure would drop to 10 million euros but that still leaves the problem with the player’s contract. Villa is one of the highest paid footballers in the Barca squad and earns around 8 million euros per year.

Therefore, the transfer operation, which includes his annual salary and transfer fee, is very high. Only the big clubs might be interested in taking on such a risk. Villa still has lots of interest in the Premiership in England, a place where he’d like like to end his football career. Tottenham or Liverpool would be two possible destinations as both clubs have shown an interest in the player.

David Villa is going through a difficult time with little prospect of playing even though he is now recovered from his injury. Tito sees it differently though, and Villa has become increasingly distant in the dressing room caused by the situation he is going through.

If David Villa wants to leave Barcelona, it will have to be the player that makes the first move. The club has made it clear that he will not be put on the market, but also are aware of the situation facing the striker. And with the imminent return of Isaac Cuenca and wonder kid Neymar as a future signing, this doesn’t help Villa’s situation either.
