Bayern Munich show interest in Pep Guardiola

Bayern Munich have surprisingly started to show an interest in signing ex Barca coach Pep Guardiola. It’s also a serious threat to both Chelsea and Manchester City who have check books in hand waiting for the great man to sign.

With the clock ticking for Roberto Mancini and not necessarily in his favour coupled with unrest in the light blues’ dressing room, Manchester City think they hold all the cards as far as luring the Catalan back into coaching a top flight team.

Guardiola has also been linked to Chelsea but it may not be the best option for him given the fickleness and hard-nosed way he has dealt with managers in the past. Rafa Benitez has stepped into Roberto Di Matteo’s shoes at the bridge but there’s no telling how long the interim manager will last. Chelsea beat Sunderland by 3 goals to 1 yesterday and Manchester City have lost against Manchester United in the derby game by 3 goals to 2 earlier on today. Mancini needed this one to appease the fans but in the end it was Robin Van Persie who got the winner for the Red Devils.

Bayern have already had talks with Guardiola’s brother Pere and are now waiting on the outcome of talks between Bayern and current coach Jupp Heynckes over his future. The official news from Bayern is that the coach has a year to go on his contract and they want him to see it out but other sources say that Heynckes, who turns 68 in May 2013, could be ready to step down then.

Also, Heynckes may feel it’s time to go out at the top if Bayern Munich win the Bundesliga. They are currently top the table by 11 points and the German coach would most definitely leave if he won either the League or the Champions League.

Bayern could be a top choice for Guardiola as the Germans would give him complete control in all football matters as well as meeting his financial demands. Bayern will not give in easily and even have ex striker and friend of Guardiola Luca Toni, from his Brescia days in Italy aiding the cause:

“I have spoken to Pep a couple of times about what he might do next and recommended Bayern to him. The circumstances and everything about the club would be perfect for him.” said Luca Toni.

On the other hand, City might lure Guardiola as ex Barca staff Txiki Begiristain and Ferran Soriano are at the Etihad and could sway Pep’s decision should the management decide to offload Mancini.
