Unstoppable Messi bags another brace against Zaragoza

messi celebrating with song, iniesta and villa

Leo Messi is unstoppable and last night against Real Zaragoza he proved it again with another two goals to add to this season’s tally.

Leo opened up the scoring on 15 minutes and then Montañés levelled for Real Zaragoza on 23 minutes. Ex Arsenal star Alex Song put Barca back in the driving seat on 28 minutes and went in at half time leading by 2 goals to one.

Leo was playing out of this world and the Zaragoza coach Manolo Jiménez made the comment that the side that had Messi on their side was the side that would have won. Tito was quick to reply and said that it’s far too simple to say that Barcelona is Leo Messi! But it was also a night on which Barcelona recovered two key players; Carles Puyol and Gerard Piqué.

It was Leo’s night however, and it was he who decided the game with two goals and an assist for Alex Song to get his first goal in the bag for the Catalans. When Messi plays like this, the other team are usually left picking up the broken pieces and last night at the Nou Camp it was Zaragoza’s turn.

A collective effort by Barca

We are experiencing one of the best starts to any season so far and we can say that far from being a one man band, Barcelona as a collective have made this happen. A lot of people are saying that Barcelona without Messi are just another team but it’s the Barca collective team spirit and team effort that makes the difference. Messi relies on his team mates and has nothing but praise for them. Iniesta said last night that “Leo makes all the difference”. While that may be true, Barcelona win games based on their giving 110% on the pitch.

This collective spirit by the Catalans allowed them to dominate the game and although Zaragoza never posed any real danger to Tito’s men, they still posed a threat with the few occasions that were presented to them.

Barca went one up in the first 15 minutes and then Montañés drew level on 23 minutes with Song chiming in on minute 28 to go into the break 2 – 1 up. Although Tito Vilanova had Puyol and Piqué back in the side, Barca are still quite shaky at the back and this is how the Zaragoza side made it 1 apiece.

Manolo Jiménez was quite content with the levelling of the game only to be disappointed by Messi’s fine assist to enable Song to get on the scoresheet.

Andrés Iniesta played an exceptional game and could have also been on the scoresheet had his shot not hit the woodwork.

Therefore FC Barcelona continues its lead at the top of the table and with Leo Messi and the rest of the Blaugrana’s playing like this, they are capable of smashing any record that comes their way.
