Barca loses out in the Super Cup to Real Madrid

A frantic start by Real Madrid gave the merengues a 2 nil lead which was cut back by a truly awesome goal by Argentine maestro, Messi.

It was at one stage 3 nil but Pepe’s goal was disallowed. Adriano was sent off in the 27th minute for taking out Cristiano Ronaldo who had the better of the Barca defender but as Adriano was the only one between Ronaldo and keeper Valdes, he had to walk after bring the Portuguese star crashing to the ground.

Madrid’s goals came from Higuain and Ronaldo but the Argentine forgave Barca on numerous occasions. It could have been raining goals in the first half but a superb Victor Valdes put paid to the white onslaught.

Messi put Barca back in the game with a real beauty of a strike just before half time and that lifted the visitors who were down to ten men.

As the second half got under way, Barca stepped up their attack and brought the game to Madrid. It’s been a while since I’ve seen Madrid with more possession than Barca but the tide was gradually beginning to turnin Barca’s favour but they lacked spark up front.

Barca brought on Alex Song who showed some nice flashes and then it was Madrid’s turn to bring on Luka Modric who also showed some nice touches. Without a shadow of a doubt we have a nice season of football to look forward to with the addition of Song in midfield.

Time was running out and one was led to think that with a few minutes more of extra time, Barca could have turned the tables on Madrid.

It wasn’t to be however and Madrid win the first trophy of the season. Barca can console themselves with a fine display of attacking football with just ten men.

Anyway, not much more to say and as Xavi said after the game, “there are more important titles to win this year”.

About Aaron

My name's Aaron and I'm a great Barça fan. I like to tell it like it is and if there is something I don't like about the club or something that needs addressing, you'll know!
