Barcelona FC imposes its style on Zaragoza

Barcelona FC did its homework on Zaragoza and imposed its style by beating them away 1-4 with two goals from Leo Messi, Puyol and a fourth by Pedro. Busquets, Xavi and Iniesta remained on the bench as Pep Guardiola rotated his squad and gave them a deserved rest. Keita, Thiago and Cesc took their places, while in attack Pedro and Alexis regained their places to provide support for Leo Messi.

Zaragoza went for broke and Barca looked a little out of place. Zaragoza was imposing for a while and even got on the scoreboard first with a goal that should have been given offside prior to hitting the net. But three minutes of effective play by Barca in the first half, first with a goal from Puyol from a corner and then another courtesy of Leo Messi, helped the Catalans overcome the initial goal from Aranda, along with a superb Victor Valdes who, minutes before, stopped a penalty which was struck straight at him.

Despite playing with superiority throughout the second half following the sending off of Abraham, Barca didn’t get to breathe until there were just five minutes left when Messi converted a penalty after Alexis was adjudged to have been fouled.Alexis had been supreme last night and had a decisive part in all Barca’s important gameplay.

Finally, Pedro put the icing on the cake deep into injury time and made the final score 1-4 to the Catalan giants. Now it’s Real Madrid’s turn tonight as they face Valencia at home at the Santiago Bernabéu.They have to respond to Barca’s win as they are just 3 points behind in La Liga.

*Late news: Manchester City have just lost away to Arsenal 1-0 by a lovely strike from Spaniard Mikel Arteta. Surely this is the end of Roberto Mancini’s hope of taking Manchester United’s crown and winning the Premier League.
