Villa out for six months with leg break

Barca striker David Villa will be out of action for at least 6 months following a leg break at the  European champions’ Fifa Club World Cup semi-final against Al-Sadd. Barcelona won the match by a comfortable 4-0 win but the news about ex Valencia star David Villa’s leg break has fueled speculation that the star might be available for transfer in the January window.

The incident occured during the European champions’ Fifa Club World Cup semi-final against Al-Sadd.

Villa suffered a break to his left tibia six minutes before half-time in Yokahama.

Barcelona won the match 4-0 thanks to two goals from Adriano and second-half strikes from Seydou Keita and Maxwell.

Boss Pep Guardiola only yesterday denied rumours that Villa, 30, was available for transfer in January.

Chelsea and Liverpool had been linked with a move for the Spanish international.

Villa’s hopes of playing in Euro 2012 also appear to be in doubt.

Apart from the obvious sad news about David Villa breaking his leg I think this accident couldn’t have come at a worse time for Villa. The striker has been off-form just lately and might find it difficult to get back into a star studded Barca first team once he’s fit again. This will also fuel speculations about the player’s future and has, as has been mentioned above, been linked to two top Premier League sides.
