Premier League title favourites Manchester City are willing to break the bank and shell out a massive £164 million for Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.
City would love to bring Messi to the Etihad stadium and smash all other transfer records to do it. They don’t seem to be joking around either. But Barcelona are said to be closing in on the Argentine to secure a seventh contract in 9 years and one that will keep the star at the Catalan giants until 2019.
Messi, who is an incredible four-time Ballon d’Or winner would of course have the pick of all the biggest clubs around the world should he ever feel that a move away from Barcelona would be the right choice and Man City, according to Spanish sports newspaper AS, would be prepared to break the bank for the talented Argentine.
It is claimed that Manchester City are more than willing to spend £164 million on bringing Messi to the Etihad Stadium. This astronomical fee would smash the world record transfer fee by almost double which, was Welsh wizard Gareth Bale’s £85 million move to Real Madrid from Tottenham last summer.
However, this would not be the first time that such a high bid has been made for Messi.Just a few years ago, it was believed that Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala had already agreed to meet the Leo Messi’s £200 million buy-out clause!
Liverpool threw away last night one of their best opportunities in their bid for the Premier League against Tony Pulis’ Crystal Palace. The Anfield team were winning 0-3 and were set for a comfortable 3 points until Palace notched it up a gear and scored 3 goals in quick succession to seriously damage the Reds chances of a Premier League title. Man city look set to win now as Chelsea also ruled themselves out of contention with a pathetic display of football against Norwich City that ended in a 0-0 draw.
