Tito Vilanova appeared at his first press conference this season and spoke about what Pep Guardiola said the other day.
“You know that I have always tried to avoid personal issues and just talk about football but I heard what Pep said and I don’t think it was right, I was surprised. I don’t think anyone of the Barca board has been used to attack me. They’ve helped all they can,” said Vilanova.
“I saw Pep on a visit I made to New York for two days, then I spent two months there when I had surgery and for treatment. We didn’t get to see each other but it wasn’t my fault. He thought it best that we didn’t see each other. He’s my friend and I needed him,” he said. “I would have acted differently to Pep”, added Tito.
“It was me that was alone and it was me who was going through a tough time. I was the one who needed help,” he repeated.

On the signing of a central defender, Tito denied that Thiago Silva from PSG was his only option. “The intention is to sign a central defender. Thiago Silva is a player that we want, but there are others,” he said.
Asked about his use of the youth team players, Tito said “it is the first time that three players from the youth team come up at the same time. We are very confident in Sergi Roberto.”
On a possible deal from Manchester United over Cesc Fabregás, Vilanova claimed to be aware that he has received offers from other teams but when he spoke to the player, he was assured by him that he was very happy to continue at the Catalan club.”
Vilanova also spoke about Thiago Alcántara going to Bayern Munich: “I don’t feel bad that Guardiola has taken Thiago, I feel bad that he’s left the club. We did everything to make him stay.”
