Barca hypnotises Osasuna in 5-1 thrashing

barca vs osasuna 2013
Barca was hypnotic against Osasuna yesterday evening and Messi showed us he was quite the magician. Messi scored four of Barca’s five goals against Osasuna who were down to ten men after 26 minutes of play. Arribas was sent off for picking up two yellow cards and opened the floodgate of goals that were to rain down on the visiting side.

Messi’s first goal was an example of the Argentine’s incredible skill. Xavi Hernandez put through an exceptional ball to him, which he controlled and went on to dummy the keeper Andres Fernandez who was sent the wrong way leaving the Argentine to round him and poke the ball home. Messi made the difficult look so easy to do. Simply awesome!

That goal assist provided by Xavi showed Barca the way to tackle Osasuna who stood bravely in the Nou Camp like Roman centurions. The Osasuna defense managed to shift the Barcelona midfield away from their area and the system worked well for a while.

Barca was still looking at their options to reach the Osasuna penalty area when the visitors made it 1 goal apiece. Raoul Loe caught a rebound in front of the area and turned it into a fantastic shot at goal. Víctor Valdés could not do anything about it as it found the bottom of the net to his right. Valdés was given a standing ovation as he came out onto the pitch and the fans appear to have given him the nod of approval for the keeper to move on to pastures new.

In the middle of Messi’s hypnotic show against Osasuna, defender Arribas was booked for a handball inside the area. Messi scored from the penalty spot and made it 2-1. Then Arribas got shown a second yellow card and was given his marching orders. That disadvantage and being outnumbered by Barca on home turf is the equation of an impossible comeback. Osasuna coach Mendilíbar was also shown the door for protesting with the fourth linesman.

The assistant referee had a nightmare of a match and failed to signal various offsides during the clash. Dani Alves continued on as if nothing had happened and put the ball on a silver platter for Pedro to make it 3-1. The Brazilian is feeling better and we are beginning to see the old Dani Alves I fear.

The changes at half time offered little in terms of trying to contain this hypnotic Barca. Neither Masoud nor Puñal managed to make Joseba Llorente’s job easier against Javier Mascherano and captain Carles Puyol.

Messi then scored twice in the twinkling of an eye. The Argentine ended up with four goals to set up a head to head with Cristiano Ronaldo on Wednesday for their Copa del Rey semi final clash, who managed a hat trick against Getafe on Sunday morning.
