Guardiola: I’m tired of Barcelona

Pep Guardiola has shocked his team, management and the world by saying he is leaving his beloved Barca. Second in command Tito Vilanova will take over the hot seat that pep leaves.

Pep confirmed the news that his club or the fans didn’t want to hear in front of a press conference filled with some of his best players including, Victor Valdés, Carles Pyol, Xavi, Andrés Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and Cesc Fabregás.

Pep is exhausted and tired of Barcelona and said at the press conference:

“I would like you to understand that this is not an easy decision for me, but I would like to explain my reasons for this decision.

“I have always wanted short-term contracts. Four years is an eternity as Barca coach.

“In the month of October I announced to the president and to the sporting director that I thought my spell was coming to an end.

“The main reason why I have taken this decision is because four years is many years.

“I have given everything and I have nothing left and need to recharge my batteries.

“The demands have been great and I have not been able to rest much.

“I have to recover and the only way I can do that is by distancing myself. Otherwise, we would have ended up damaging each other.

“I know that I’m leaving the best place to work in. I am very satisfied with the result we have achieved.

“I have had the great privilege of coaching fantastic players and I want to thank them.”

Pep’s contract was about to be renewed in June and there has been much talk these past few weeks about the coach staying. Many players have openly said that they felt Guardiola would make the right decision but the news that he will not be extending his stay at the Nou Camp must have come as a shock to them today as they were told the news at Barca’s training ground which is a few miles away from the stadium.

Pep is only 41 but has proved to be the most successful coach Barcelona has ever had. He took the reigns in 2008 when he was in charge of the Barcelona B side. Guardiola has led them to two Champions League crowns, three La Liga trophies, one Copa del Rey, three Supercopas, two UEFA Super Cups and two FIFA Club World Cups – an astonishing feat for such a talented young man.

Barcelona FC president Sandro Rosell thanked Guardiola “for bringing a model of football that can never be questioned”. He also announced that Tito Vilanova would be taking over the role in the summer when this season has ended.

Sandro Rosell finished off by highlighting Guardiola’s contribution and backed Tito Vilanova to continue the Catalan club’s success.

Rosell said: “Pep always takes the best decision for this club. It was his decision and it’s a personal one and an understandable one.

“We hope to follow the inheritance that Pep leaves us with the best we can. He has made us proud.

“Now we can confirm that Tito will be our new coach. This was a decision taken by Andoni Zubizarreta and it has been ratified today by our executive committee.

“Tito and Andoni will now work on next season’s planning and I am sure they will do a good job.”

A lot of Catalans will be sorely disappointed with this news today especially after Barca’s sad exit from the Champions League and losing to Real Madrid last weekend. We can’t say anymore but a big thank you to Pep Guardiola – a big guy from a small town in Catalonia called Santpedor.

Moltes Gracies Pep
