FC Barcelona should now fully focus on winning La Liga now that they are out of the UEFA Champions League. It’s true, after a magnificent run of 39 games without defeat and then a small run of losses to Real and Atlético Madrid to name two, Barça should now concentrate on the job in hand.
Winning the league in Spain has always been the top two or three clubs in the country’s main priority and Barça, who is on level points with Atlético and just 1 point in front of eternal rivals Real Madrid, need to buckle down and get in the groove.
And after FC Barcelona’s 6 nil drubbing of sporting at the weekend, it looks like the Catalans are up for the job. The fans hope they are are to it as it would be a bitter pill to swallow after a great start to the season under Luis Enrique with all manner of records being broken to boot.
There has also been reports of unrest and the occasional flare of tempers on and off the pitch, naming the Neymar and Jordi Alba incident as just one. From time to time these things happen and with a dressing room as complicated as Barcelona’s, things are going to get a little heated sometimes.
Apart from La Liga, Barça still have the none too small matter of meeting Sevilla in the Copa del Rey final on May 21st. Barça need to stay focussed enough to take on Sevilla and win the league. Luis Enrique remained optimistic after the Sporting de Gijón game and praised his players although he did underline that if his trident of Messi, Neymar and Suárez were to work, they need the team behind them. He also said that he doesn’t watch his closest rivals’ matches. He knows that they’ll probably win but he has to keep focussed on what Barça does.
