Jeremy Mathieu scored a very important goal for Barcelona on Sunday against Luis Enrique’s old club to keep the Catalans ahead of Real Madrid in one of the hottest title races for years.

Mathieu headed home the winner with just 16 minutes remaining at Balaídos stadium to remain four points clear.

Meanwhile Cristiano Ronaldo netted an impressive 5 goals against Granada in real Madrid’s 9-1 thrashing of the Andalusian side. It was CR7’s first ever 5 goal haul as “Los Blancos” looked liked they had returned to their winning ways.

Celta on the other hand put up a tough fight against Barça with a well-organised defense that had the Catalans labouring for long periods of the game until Mathieu finally broke the deadlock late in the game.

Celta stunned Barcelona last year and the Nou Camp outfit knew that they were going in against a team that was going to “bring it”. Claudio Bravo had to turn away Nolito’s low drive 10 minutes into the game. It didn’t end there though as just before the half-time whistle, Celta’s Joaquin Larrivey, the man who scored the winner at the Camp Nou, blazed the ball over with just Bravo to beat.

Messi played the full 90 minutes despite the worries and concern over his foot injury these past few days. He teamed up with Suárez and Neymar in a three-pronged attack at the start of the match with Rakitic replacing the Uruguayan lat in the second half.

Mathieu’s goal for Barça was gold as the Catalans plow on in a very interesting Spanish League that could go either way.
