Busquets hopes Clasico will be decisive for Barcelona

With the Catalan giants winning at the weekend and Real Madrid dropping two valuable points in their 1-1 draw against Villareal, defender Sergio Busquets hopes that the upcoming ‘Clasico’ will be decisive for Barça.

Busquets was speaking at a press conference ahead of Wednesday’s clash against Villareal. Barcelona have a 3-1 lead from the first leg but are heading to El Madrigal with their mind firmly on winning this difficult clash.

Busquets said: “Obviously it’s going to be a difficult game, we’re one step away from the final and everyone wants a good result. We start with an advantage, as they have to score. They kept things tight against us in the league game, but now they’ll have to open themselves up more and attack, so we’re hoping to take advantage of that.”

When asked if he expected Real Madrid to slip up against Villarreal this weekend, Busquets said: “All we expected was for ourselves to beat Granada. We’re currently behind Real Madrid, so every time they slip-up, we’ve got to take advantage.” He also added that in terms of the title race, “We must try to win all our games. Obviously Real Madrid were four points ahead and now that’s been cut to two, but nothing has changed.”

Obviously, with Barcelona closing the gap on Real Madrid for the top spot, it serves to increase expectations for when the two meet in ‘El Clasico’: “I don’t know if El Clásico will be decisive or not, but hopefully it will be decisive for us.” Responded the midfielder when asked if the encounter could decide the league title, whilst pointing out that given the titanic clash isn’t until the end of the month, “It all depends on a lot of things which today, right now, it’s impossible to know.”

After Barcelona’s impressive win at the weekend against Granada, the Catalans are now just two points behind Ancelotti’s men. With a lot of La Liga still left to play, Barcelona are in a good position to pip Real to the post.
