Sergio Busquets signs new deal with Barcelona

Sergio Busquets who was wanted by both Manchester United and City is to sign a new deal today which will tie the defender to the club until 2019 with an option to renew for another 12 months.

Pellegrini had the Barça star penciled in to replace Yaya Touré, who is reportedly considering moving on.

The 26 year old was also being looked at by Manchester United who still haven’t got their defensive issues sorted out after losing to Swansea last weekend.

However, both Premier League giants are to miss out on the player as a Barça spokesperson revealed that Busquets will be going nowhere. “The contract will be signed on Friday lunchtime in the club offices at the Camp Nou,” said a club statement.

Sergio Busquets has had a stellar career with the Catalans whom he made his debut for in 2008. The defender has since notched up 312 more games for the club winning an impressive 16 titles in the process.

The player thrived under Pep Guardiola and at the age of 26 years, Busquets has a wealth of experience behind him that prompted the top Premier League outfits to try and lure him.

After Barcelona’s win in midweek against Man City, the club will play Granada CF away on Saturday in La Liga. Kickoff at Los Cármenes stadium in Granada is scheduled for 16:00 CET.
