Ill tempered clash sees Barcelona through to the semi finals

Atletico vs Barcelona copa del rey 2015

A rather ill tempered clash saw Barcelona through to the semi finals of La Copa last night against Atlético Madrid in a fiercely fought battle which saw Arda Turan throw his boot at a linesman and just receive a booking!

The Turkish international lost the plot and launched his boot at a linesman and miraculously escaped an early bath – all because a decision didn’t go his way. All credit goes to FC Barcelona who went behind twice in the match as Fernando Torres and Raul Garcia fired Diego Simeone’s side into the lead in what looked like a sure win for the Madrid outfit.

Atlético ended the match with just 9 players on the field after Gabi was shown a red in the tunnel at half time while Mario Suárez picked up a second yellow later on in the game.

It was pure carnage as Barcelona romped home to a 4-2 win on aggregate as Neymar netted two and Jao Miranda scored in his own net. Atlético opened up the scoring but by half time it was curtains for Atlético Madrid. Luis Enrique made no changes to the side that contested the first leg against Atlético and it paid off in a large way.

The game was not without a scare for Barça as “El Niño Torres” scored on 41 seconds to make the scores 1-1 on aggregate. In the 28th minute, Atlético pressed hard and was awarded a penalty when Juanfran was taken out by Mascherano. Replays later showed that it was outside the box but Raúl Garcia calmly slotted the ball home which gave an aggregate score of 2-2.

Just before half time Atlético shouted for another penalty for a Jordi Alba handball but the ref said get on with it which led Barça to counter attack and net home courtesy of Neymar, who basically walked the ball into the net for his second of the night. This made it 3-2 to Barça and pretty much out of Atlético’s reach.

Things got worse for Simeone’s men as Gabi was sent off at half time and later on in the 84th minute, his midfield partner Suárez saw a second yellow and an early bath for a tackle from behind on Messi.

That was it, Barcelona now go into the semi finals of La Copa del Rey
