Chelsea are playing like Barcelona says Cesc Fàbregas

cesc fabregas

Ex Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fàbregas says that his new club Chelsea is playing a similar style of football to his former club Barça.

Fàbregas swapped the Spanish League for the Premier League in the summer and has noticed similarities between the two giants and has even praised his new coach Jose Mourinho.

At the moment, Fàbregas’ Chelsea are sitting at the top of the Prem 3 points clear of main rivals Manchester City and despite a couple of hiccups, have enjoyed a very strong start to the current season.

The ex Barcelona midfielder who is a key piece in Mourinho’s team, feels that the Portuguese manager has learned a lot from his spell in Spain and facing the Catalans. Cesc feels that Mo has adapted a similar philosophy to that of Barcelona.

Fabregas told reporters: “Mourinho adapts to the players he has.”

“What makes him so great as a coach is that he adapts to any situation and his teams can play in many different ways. It’s a very intelligent way of managing.

“I’d say that Barca have a style that he has already experienced and understands perfectly.

“We play a very similar game – we want to be the team that takes the initiative, have possession and look to score. We may have a different system, but the philosophy is similar.”

The Guardian has hit the nail on the head about Fàbregas’ return to the Premier League.

It is clear that Fàbregas’ imagination and ability on the ball has been a major factor in Chelsea’s rise to the top of the league… Fàbregas treats the ball as if it is his best friend and it is not a surprise that he has made more passes (1,563) than any other player.

It was a wise choice by Mourinho bringing Cesc back to London as the figures above show. The £30 million spent on bringing Fàbregas to Stamford Bridge has to be one of the signings of the year in the Premier League.
