Barcelona striker Luis Suarez accepts The Golden Shoe Award from former Liverpool player and manager Kenny Dalglish stressing he is ready to start in El Clasico against Real Madrid.

At a ceremony in Barcelona on Wednesday evening, Kop legend Kenny Dalglish presented ex Liverpool striker Luis Suárez with the Golden Shoe Award after netting 31 goals for the Anfield outfit last season. Dalglish was actually picked out by Suárez to present him with the trophy in Barcelona. Suárez dedicated the award to his former Liverpool teammates.

My three-and-a-half years there were spectacular and I would not have won this without them,’ he said. ‘I would also like to thank the man who who brought me to the club,’ he added, looking across at Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish, who was in Barcelona to present him with the award.

‘From the first moment I met him with Sofia (Suarez’s wife) I took to him,’ said Dalglish. ‘He achieved so much last season and it’s an honour to be here – I even cancelled a game of golf to make it.’

Legend Dalglish was asked if he thought that Luis Suarez would succeed at Barça and he said: ‘I don’t think there is anyone who can stop him. He was brilliant at Ajax and Liverpool and I’m sure he will be success. And if it doesn’t work out he can always come back to Liverpool on loan.’

Even Steven Gerard had words to say about his ex teammate and sent a video message:

“I’m sorry I can’t be with Luis today, but I would like to congratulate him from everyone here at Liverpool.

“You were a magical player at Liverpool. Barça are lucky. Good luck for the future, mate. We miss you very much, all the best.”

This award is a great incentive for Luis Suárez who is tipped to start in the Clasico against Real Madrid on 25th October.
