Barcelona see off Celta and make 1,000 home wins

Barcelona netted three times last night to see off ex Barça player Luis Enrique’s Celta Vigo. The Catalans also made it 1,000 home wins between the Camp Nou and their old stomping ground at Les Corts stadium.

Given the way Barcelona is playing at the moment, it wasn’t likely that Celta would manage to put a spanner in the works and the Catalan team cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win.

The downside of last night’s game was Victor Valdes’ injury. Barcelona’s number one stopper was taken to hospital where they confirmed that he had torn the cruciate ligament in his right knee.
The keeper will now have to undergo surgery which will sideline him for several months, missing the rest of the season and the World Cup with Spain.

The social networks lit up last night with words of encouragement for Valdés with Manchester United’s David De Gea adding: “I’d like to offer all my support and strength to a keeper I greatly admire and respect.” Obviously, with Victor Valdés out, De Gea could make Vicente del Bosque’s shortlist for the Spain squad in Brazil 2014.
